Following a successful debut edition, Markus Schulz returns with another 15 personally selected tunes for his November digital compilation.
The Top 15 is loaded with all the biggest tunes on both Global DJ Broadcast and Markus' live sets. Leading the way is Texan outfit Tritonal, teaming up with vocalist Cristina Soto to bring the wonderful Walk With Me, which was been one of the most requested GDJB tunes during the Ibiza Summer Sessions season.
It would have been difficult to find a Markus Schulz liveset this summer that didn't include the pulsating Russia by tyDi, Red Star by Musetta, the updated version of Take Me Away by 4 Strings, or the peak time No More Alone by Giuseppe Ottaviani.
Featuring also are some of the championed GDJB names from over the years, including Duderstadt, Mr. Pit, Funabashi and Andrew Bennett. Andrew's track Heaven Sent, along with Interstate's Remember Me, were chosen to appear on Markus' latest compilation project for Armani Exchange, and as they will be forever remembered as tracks that defined the GDJB era, they make a welcome appearance here as listeners anticipate the end of year GDJB Classics Showcase.
Wrapping up the Top 15 includes names such as Ronski Speed, Stoneface & Terminal, Re-Ward, M.I.K.E. under his Phuture Dust alias and balearic master DJ Shah, under his Sunlounger guise.

Since October 1993, the UK's biggest radio station, BBC Radio 1, has invited the world's greatest DJs to showcase their talents in the award winning amd much heralded Essential Mix.
The importance of an appearance on the Essential Mix cannot be understated. For many DJs, it has defined their career. For others, it has been the launchpad to establishing a place in dance music folklore.
On Friday December 5th, the honour will be bestowed upon none other than Markus Schulz.
Naturally, Markus is delighted with the news. "It's a wonderful honor to be asked," says Markus. "For so many fans around the world, they get their first real exposure to dance music through the reputation of the Essential Mix."
"When I visited the Radio 1 studios a few weeks ago to do the show with Judge Jules, you could feel a special atmosphere just by looking at pictures of the DJs who have been there and featured heavily on the EM over the years. It makes me feel nervous, but very excited at the same time."
Markus has appeared on the Essential Mix once before, as part of a live broadcast from the Planetlove Festival in Ireland in 2007. However, this will be the first opportunity for Markus to perforn a studio edition.
So what can we expect from a Markus Schulz Essential Mix? "Well, I can tell you that I already have a brand new remix of my own tucked away until that set. My primary focus over the next few weeks will be working on the Essential Mix. I hope I can be as creative as possible and provide something that the listeners are going to be talking about for some time to come."

Hey everyone!
Hope you are all well wherever you are and what you are doing. It has been a significant period of time in the world so I want to take some time and reflect in writing over what has happened this past week. I am currently writing to you from Madrid airport, just getting off the red-eye flight from Miami. A bit jaded, but in good spirits overall; and looking forward very much to this weekend.
When I signed off last Friday I was on my way to San Juan in Puerto Rico for my weekend gig. It was definitely a new experience! I was nervous preparing for the gig because you really did not know what to expect from the crowd. I think overall it went well, but it gave me a lot of food for thought in terms of preparing for the unknown.
After San Juan I had the rare luxury of spending a Saturday night at home in Miami. Unfortunately, all the travelling of the past week... Los Angeles - Miami - London - Miami - San Juan - Miami... really began catching up with me physically. So the rest of the weekend was spent in full chill mode - went to the gym, ate well, and watched some sports including the Dolphins game, which we won! Who would have thought we would have won 4 times the amount of games we won last season by now? They are a good young team, and definitely on the way up.
Monday was the beginning of a very busy week, and I knew well in advance that due to what would occur on Tuesday, that I was going to have to lock myself into the studio for many hours.
This weekend is a massive one for me personally - returning to Sofia for the first time in almost two years to play at a beautiful club called Yalta on Friday, and playing at one of the marquee events in the world on Saturday in Prague, Transmission.
Most of you will already know that the theme for this year's Transmission is "The New World". Back in March, the organisers for the event contacted me and asked if I could compose a special theme for the night. While I felt incredibly honored, I knew that this was going to be a big challenge for me in the studio.
If you think back to all the internationally renowned events, such as Sensation White or Trance Energy, they have always picked iconic tracks as their themes that have stood the test of time and remain anthems today. Not only that, you have to take into account the significant factors of playing in an arena or festival type setting. You need bigger riffs, punchier basslines, and produce a vibe which the person sitting in the nosebleed seats or standing at the back of a tent is going to feel as much as a person standing at the front of the stage.
Looking back at the nights in the studio working on The New World, it was definitely my previous experiences of playing at Transmission which helped me visualize how the track needed to sound. The feeling I get once you get on stage, seeing literally a sea of people in front of you, accompanied with all the visuals and production techniques that Transmission is known for, is really inspirational.
A lot of people have been sending me emails or asking on the forum about The New World and when it is coming out. My Progression Progressed album, which features all the huge remixes of my tracks over the past year, was released digitally last Monday. The original of The New World is on there, so you should be able to grab it though all the download portals. I think the album itself was a very rewarding project. I was very pleased with how all the additional remixes turned out, and I think everyone will find something on there that they can enjoy and appreciate. Of course I also have the Return To Coldharbour Remxi of the track, which has been getting huge reactions at all my gigs over the past couple of weeks, and the good news I can tell you is that you will not have to wait very long for its release. More details about that to come next week.
Seeing the release of the remix album felt like one of those chapters in your life that is about to be closed, and another one is about to begin. The same can be said for the United States, where of course we had our Election day on Tuesday, to decide a new president for the next four years.
I got up at 6am on Tuesday morning to go to the voting polls, and stood for 2 hours in line! When I heard the news of this election being the biggest in terms of voting turnout, I was not surprised. Come evening time, we invited some friends over, ordered some Chinese food, and had a nice little get-together until 2am as we watched the results of the exit polls coming in. To me it felt like we were celebrating New Year's Eve, only it was at the beginning of November.
I think the result was what citizens of the world were hoping for. It has been a very difficult time for all of us in recent years, particularly with everyone feeling the effects of the downturn in the economic climate recently. I feel that we now have a person in President Obama that we can believe in, and who can give us all hope for the future. When I was staying at my apartment in Berlin during the summer, I picked up a newspaper and the headline read, "Barack Obama - can he be a leader not just for the United States of America, but also a leader of the world." That moment has stuck with me ever since, it gave me goosebumps.
It really is going to be a new world, a new vision, and a future that I can honestly say I am looking forward to already.
Wednesday night was spent making Evolution and getting the Global DJ Broadcast World Tour show edited and finalized. The night at White Angel in Budapest was amazing, and when listening back to the recording, it made me appreciate even more how incredibly hot the crowd were on the night. Hopefully you guys enjoyed listening to the latest chapter of my worldwide travels, and thank you to everyone in Budapest for making it one of the best GDJB World Tour stops to date.
Today I feature as the guest on Above & Beyond's Trance Around The World radio show, where I will be doing a 30 minute guest mix. You will be able to find details of how to tune in and the tracklist on my forum. I take a flight from Madrid to Sofia in 1 hour, play at Yalta tonight, then travel to Prague on Saturday to play at Transmission, which is held at the O2 Arena. I played in the venue back in May for the Prague edition of Sensation White, so I know exactly what to expect in terms of atmosphere. After Prague, it is straight back to Miami, where another week will begin.
So it's time to sign off again. I see a smoothie bar beside one of the checkin desks so time to grab a strawberry & banana combo, and start getting ready for Sofia. I have been looking forward to this weekend for so long, and now that it's here, I can't wait to experience it.

Swedish duo Andrelli & Blue, alongside vocalist Hila, made quite an impression on listeners in the beginning of 2008 with their debut release "Imagine". Returning with a distinctly smooth and sexy flavour is their debut release for Coldharbour Recordings, entitled "Transparent".
The original was deemed as one of the outstanding inclusions on Markus Schulz's Hypnotic compilation CD for Armani Exchange, and also received support early on from Armin van Buuren on his A State Of Trance radio show.
Having already established themselves as firm Coldharbour favourites, Texan duo Tritonal deliver their Air Up There perspective on Transparent, and the results have been given firm approval by the fans, as it has become one of Markus Schulz's most requested tracks on Global DJ Broadcast and Evolution over the past three months.
Wrapping up the package is a remix by the much heralded and respected Jody Wisternoff of Way Out West fame, who offers a more downtempo offering, but will appeal to fans of his unhibited and unique style.

The weather may be getting colder, but Transparent will doubtlessly bring back memories of lush and fresh summertime.

What's up everybody, hello again to you all.
It has been a crazy and jetlag-filled week, where I have had stays in the cities of Amsterdam, Miami, Los Angeles and London. I will try to fill you in on everything I have been up to as best as possible.
I mentioned last week that I played at the Armada night at Amsterdam Dance Event. It was almost like a reunion of the extended Armada family. After seeing them so often during the Ibiza season, it was strange to go over a month without seeing them all! The Armada night was broadcasted live on Afterhours FM, and I conducted a couple of short interviews before my set, answering questions that people were sending in online. I had a lot of fun doing that, some of your screennames had everyone laughing!
Amsterdam is one of those cities that inspires me daily. The Dutch audience was one of the first groups of people that embraced the Coldharbour sound. A lot of those inspirations went in to the 2008 compilation, and hopefully for the people who listened to it, the mood and the music gave them a flavor of what the city is like.
It now makes me begin to wonder, which city will be used for the 2009 compilation?
Saturday was time to settle in to the beautiful city of Los Angeles. It is one of those places that is very unique, and as a DJ, when I played there for the first time, it was really intimidating. They expect the best of the best. I have to admit though, that I have had some of my most memorable gigs playing in LA. I would like to give a shout out to all the people who showed up at the Armani Exchange store for my set earlier in the day, I had a real blast there, and it was the perfect way to start off the evening.
Being a major city, LA caters very well for the huge rave-type gigs. One of the most famous events of this nature around the world is Monster Massive. It always occurs on the Saturday before Halloween, so everyone goes all out and dresses up to add to the atmosphere. I mentioned in the blog last week that it keeps getting bigger every year I play there, and boy had it grown this time around! There must have been a 60,000+ crowd filling the LA Sports Arena - when you see a sight like that sometimes you have to rub your eyes and remind yourself that it is real. Monster Massive is the type of gig where you want to raise the bar in terms of performance, and I was very pleased with how my set turned out.
It was a really enjoyable experience playing there again, the atmosphere was electric. I got to bump in to Judge Jules, only a week after doing the Radio 1 show with him, and also fellow German and good friend Paul van Dyk. Paul is one of the hardest working people on the planet, and what he has contributed to dance music over the years has been incredible. It must be in the German genes, work hard and be as efficient as possible.
Sunday was spent travelling back home to Miami and to try and chill as much as possible. I got back to work on Monday, beginning preparation for my gigs over the next couple of weeks. I spent a large part of Monday and Tuesday in the studio working on a remix for a track we signed to Coldharbour recently, and I am very pleased with how it has turned out. I'll give it a roadtest and play it out in the clubs over the next while and see how the crowd reacts. That is the most exciting part about working on a production or remix - when you are in the studio you are constantly thinking about how the track is going to work on the dancefloor.
Due to having to fly to London for the DJ Mag Awards on Wednesday, I had a red eye flight from Miami on Tuesday night. So it meant that this week's Global DJ Broadcast was recorded on the plane crossing the Atlantic. By the time I got into London, I was feeling the jetlag quite a bit. It sometimes makes you wish that the time was the same everywhere around the world. The weather in London was so cold! When landing at Heathrow Airport - there were traces of snow that had fallen the night before. But after a few cups of coffee, I got my energy levels back up to normal.
And so to Wednesday night, and the announcement of the DJ Mag Top 100 for 2008. Finding out the results was a real humbling experience to me. I can't even begin to thank you guys enough for all your support you have given me, particularly over the past year. Whether it be at the clubs, the message boards, or listening to Global DJ Broadcast and Evolution every week, the kind words that you all say really do mean a lot. Thank you all so much. There are a few people that contribute greatly behind the scenes, that help keep me on top of things and open doors to opportunities that I think I have taken well this year. We are all continuing to grow together, and I can honestly say that I am enjoying the journey very much.
The night itself was hectic. On arriving at Ministry of Sound I had to do several interviews with DJ Mag and a couple of UK radio stations. Then it was time to watch the awards ceremony itself, and see one of my closest friends retain the accolade of number 1. I was delighted for Armin, I could tell it was a really special moment for him. Having his parents and his fiancee Erika by his side, and being able to celebrate his achievement in style. A large portion of the Armada and David Lewis Productions crew were in attendance, and in many ways, the night was a reward to them too, for all the hard work that they have done for both Armin and myself over the past year.
Meeting so many DJs backstage and catching up with them was cool. Kyau & Albert, who have had a sensational 2008, where there along with staff from Euphonic. Mark Knight, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Andy C and Mike Koglin all said hello and it was fun hanging out with them. Talking to Andy C actually made me think about the broader spectrum of dance music. He picked up the award for highest Drum & Bass DJ, like he seemingly does every year, but unfortunately there are not that many D&B DJs representing that sound in the poll. It is a shame for me really, because when I lived in London in particular, I was inspired my listening to Drum & Bass. A lot of the moody Coldharbour basslines that are in my tracks would only have been made possible by listening to that type of music.
I went on stage after Armin and played the closing set of the night. Mike Koglin was standing beside me in the DJ booth and in the middle of my set I dropped the track he did with Nick Larson, called United. The reaction to that from him was so nice. He really appreciated the support I had given him though the year with United and with his remix of Sunshade - Vertigo. But the support was most certainly warranted, because I have really enjoyed his sound in 2008.
After a couple of hours sleep (literally!), I flew back home to Miami yesterday, and today I am off to Suan Juan in Puerto Rico for this weekend's fun and games. Once I sign off writing I have to answer a few emails and burn a few CDs of last minute edits, and then I'll be good to go.
What I want to start doing over the next couple of months is to get more involved with the fans on my forum. And even Markus himself managed to create a totally different vibe on his ‘Daydream’ track, now available in his ‘Coldharbour remix’. Markus took some time to explain a little something about this hot release!
Armada: What made you decide to release a full album for these remixes?
Markus: “I was really proud of the remix packages we put out for each single released from the album. I am so grateful to the outstanding producers who gave their own interpretation of the originals. So this album looks back over the big remixes of my tracks for the past year, combined with some hidden remix gems of other album tracks.”
Armada: It's been more than a year ago that ‘Progression’ saw its release. How do you look back upon that time?
Markus: “Hectic! I was really proud of how the original ‘Progression’ album turned out. The feedback I got from the fans and the Global DJ Broadcast listeners made me feel that the long nights in the studio were really worth it. Since then the touring has been non-stop, and I have been lucky to experience so many different cities and cultures through that time. The coolest thing is, it doesn't matter where in the world you are, everybody still knows the words to ‘Perfect’ by heart, and they love to sing along!”
Armada: Did you enjoy the ‘Progression’ tour you did? Which night is the most memorable to you?
Markus: “There are so many to mention. The kickoff night at Panama in Amsterdam was really special because I regard Amsterdam as a home. The gigs in China and Argentina were incredible, and those are two countries I want to visit soon. The big cities in North America like Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, Montreal and my home town Miami were all amazing to play. To cap it off at the closing of the legendary Turnmills in London was the perfect crescendo of the tour. I have been fortunate to meet some truly outstanding fans in these places who have supported me so much over the past few years - knowing that they will be there front and centre each time I come into town is a cool feeling.”
Armada: Since the album turned out to be such a big success, did it give you more confidence or energy to produce any follow-ups?
Markus: “Absolutely! For this past summer I focused on two big projects - my new production ‘The New World’, and my remix of Sia's track named ‘Buttons’. The reactions I have been getting to both tracks, particularly in my residencies at Amnesia in Ibiza and at Ministry of Sound in London, have been incredible. When you are in the studio, you think ahead to the moments when you are playing what you are working on to a big room crowd on the best sound systems, therefore it inspires me to get it right and hope that it has the desired effect on the dance floor.”
Armada: The remixes are done by producers like Mat Zo, Mark Otten, Nic Chagall and Monogato. Did they came up with the remixes themselves or did you asked some to do so?
Markus: “Most of the time I ask them to work on certain remixes. The people who listen to Global DJ Broadcast every week are always so responsive, so it is easy to tell which producer is really winning them over at a particular time. Mat Zo is such a talented kid and has an amazing future. Nic Chagall has been one of the outstanding stars of the last two years, between his own work and as Cosmic Gate. Monogato really came to life at the beginning of the year and some of his remixes have become GDJB anthems for years to come. Mark Otten is a production genius, and I have been a fan of his work for years, even going back to when he remixed my track Largo, and when I remixed his track Tranquility. When you are constantly thinking in your head of who in particular can recreate something incredible from your own track, it can be difficult to find that right person. But with the likes of Agnelli & Nelson and Lemon & Einar K, who did outstanding jobs on their remixes for this album, it can make you feel really proud.”
Armada: Any favorite remix among them or do you politically correct ‘like them all'?
Markus: “I think the great thing about each track on the album is that it can fill you with a different emotion. For instance, ‘Perfect’ is a real feel-good track, whereas ‘Cause You Know’ has really deep meaning and can give you that pensive feeling. It also depends on the time of the year and each setting - with the summer you have the opportunity to play at more big arena events and festivals than usual. My big summer anthem this year has been ‘Daydream’; it was the one track everyone wanted from the album immediately. Bringing in Lemon & Einar K to remix the track just turned out to be the perfect moment.”
Armada: You also included a Coldharbour mix of ‘Daydream', did you feel the need to sort of improve yourself, or is it just a matter of creativity and diversity?
Markus: “I feel it is a matter of creativity and diversity. ‘Daydream’ was our most extensive remix package ever released on Coldharbour Recordings, and I think we covered almost all the bases with the diverse selection of producers we chose to remix the track. The Coldharbour Mix was something I really only intended on making as an exclusive for my ‘Amsterdam '08’ compilation. However, when the full package of ‘Daydream’ got released, many people were still longing for the Coldharbour Mix. I am thankful that this album gives the mix a good home.”
Armada: It also includes your new track, ‘The New World’. It sounds different than we're used to, but it still has that Markus sound. What inspired you to make it? And where does the title come from?
Markus: “This November I am playing at my third Transmission event in Prague, Czech Republic. The organizers of the event asked me to compose a special theme for the night. When you play in the big arenas, you need a special type of track in your set to work exclusively for that type of setting. This is why ‘The New World’ is slightly more techy and upfront. I get inspired seeing wave upon wave of people in these arenas, the sheer volume of the crowd can take your breath away sometimes. So you need to make something that really strikes home with everyone in the arena, whether they are right up at the front or back. But I feel that the track still has my trademark groove and melody. The name? I guess you could say that the world is constantly changing, more and more countries and cultures worldwide are embracing progressive and trance. Thanks to the internet, people know all the latest tracks that I play and the response is therefore instantaneous.”
Armada: Is there any chance a new artist album is coming up?
Markus: “I hope that I can start work on my third artist album in the next few months. With this remix album we are saying thank you to all the fantastic remixes over the past year and closing the chapter of ‘Progression’, and then it will be time to move on, challenging myself to produce something even better than before. I love being creative in the studio.”
